| Biography
My first studio was the space under the stairs at my childhood home in Chicago. There, I dreamed my dreams and worked on my "Art." I have never been bored. I did three-dimensional clay figures and lined them up on the display shelf and papered the wall with my drawings. After graduating, I worked in the Art Department of a successful Michigan Avenue advertising agency, Foote, Cone and Belding. I married and had two wonderful sons. We moved to Tokyo, Japan and for three years I studied Expressionistic and Experimental Art with Professor Faure Harada, founder of the Aimer Ami Art Group. When the family returned Stateside to the Florida Panhandle area, the detailed notes that I had taken while in Japan became the basis of my curriculum during my teaching years. I helped establish the Arts and Design Society at Ft. Walton Beach. My students and I exhibited often in the area. Upon settling in Alexandria, Virginia I continued my painting studies for the next ten years with my teacher and mentor, Ralph de Burgos, a well-known and respected artist. His studio, gallery and school were in the Old Georgetown area of Washington, D.C. During that period, I regularly exhibited in area art shows including at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Certified by the New York School of Interior Design, I pursued a successful twenty-five year career as a designer. This opened up a broad field for selling my artwork and working on private commissions for my clients. My husband and I retired to Ocala, Florida in 1997 and I decided to explore the world of watercolor. I have loved every step along the way in my career. Second to my family, art is the focus of my life. We have four grown children and eight grand children so my supply of portrait subjects is limitless. I have served as President, First Vice-President and three years as Director of the Ocala Art Group at The Appleton Museum of Art. At present, I serve on the Central Florida Community College Advisory Board for the Cultural and Conference Centers. |
